At the Cotton-O'Neil Cancer Center, our care centers around you.

A Continuum of Care

From prevention or diagnosis to treatment and recovery, Stormont-Vail HealthCare and Cotton-O’Neil Clinic offer unmatched care and service in their cancer care line. The new Cotton-O’Neil Cancer Center offers the latest technology for radiation therapy, simulation and diagnostics along with the Cotton-O’Neil medical oncology practices, an infusion center and a research center. Ancillary services include social work, nutrition and pastoral care. A library, resource center with information about medical treatments and appearance-related side effects of treatment, and meeting space for support groups are additional features at the center.

A Legacy in the Community

The roots of providing care to those with cancer run deep at Stormont-Vail and Cotton-O’Neil Clinic. The clinic has provided medical oncology services since the 1960s. It merged in 1995 with Stormont-Vail.

The first Cancer Center was located in Stormont-Vail Regional Center with a radiation therapy center, and was equipped with a multi-energy linear accelerator and a 3-D treatment-planning computer.

Our technology and treatment have come a long way since those days as medical developments and options have evolved. But one thing hasn’t changed, and that’s our commitment to high quality health care for patients.

There’s No Place Like Home

The Cotton-O’Neil Cancer Center strives to help patients in northeast Kansas  receive their cancer medical treatments near their homes. This is done by providing a number of services in Topeka, as well as outreach programs in several smaller communities in Kansas. We know it’s important to be comfortable and close  to familiar surroundings and family during  cancer treatment.

  • The freestanding Cotton-O’Neil Cancer Center consolidates cancer services of Stormont-Vail HealthCare and Cotton-O’Neil Clinic into one facility.
  • The center houses a multi-disciplinary program that brings together treatment and research to provide first-class care for cancer patients. Patient-focused care and convenience are the cornerstone of the center.
  • The 30,000-square-foot cancer center is located at 1414 S.W. Eighth Ave.,  between Washburn Avenue and Lane Street.
  • The center opened in December 2006.
  • The new center was announced to the public in December 2004, after it was authorized by the Stormont-Vail HealthCare board of directors.
  • The center offers the latest technology for radiation therapy, simulation and CT imaging, and houses the Cotton-O’Neil medical oncology practices, an infusion center and a research area. There are also ancillary services for cancer patients.
  • The demand for cancer treatment care is increasing for several reasons. With a growing and aging population there is greater probability for the need for cancer treatment services. With more sophisticated technology there is often earlier cancer detection, thus the need for treatment. Cancer is a chronic disease so cancer services are more in demand.
