BIG HEARTS for little hearts Golf Tournament benefits Stormont-Vail children

(Topeka, Kan., Sept. 8, 2008) – The Stormont-Vail Foundation will host its eighth annual BIG HEARTS for little hearts Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 15, at Topeka Country Club. After an 11 a.m. lunch, the golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at noon. Cocktails, a dinner buffet and an awards ceremony will follow the tournament.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Stormont-Vail Foundation Children’s Endowment Fund. This fund supports important services and programs that are dedicated to children at Stormont-Vail HealthCare including the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the region serving all of northeast Kansas and The Birthplace at Stormont-Vail, where more than 2,200 babies are born every year. Other programs and services supported by the Children’s Endowment Fund include the Breastfeeding and Follow-up Clinic, the Pediatric/Adolescent Department, the Stork’s Cradle Program for at-risk mothers, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner/Sexual Assault Response Team Program, which treats an average of 60 children every year, and the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Medicine Program at Stormont-Vail West. The Foundation expects to raise more than $100,000 from the golf tournament for northeast Kansas children this year.

“The generosity displayed each year by our community in support of children throughout northeast Kansas is overwhelming,” said Don Schepker, Stormont-Vail Foundation President. “We are very grateful to all of our generous sponsors and golfers who have helped us grow this tournament over the years.”
