(Topeka, Kan., April 7, 2011) – Cotton-O'Neil Clinic, part of the Stormont-Vail HealthCare family of care, announces the addition of Arturo Camacho, M.D., Ph. D., neurosurgeon, to its medical staff. Dr. Camacho recently relocated from Arizona, where he was in private practice.
Dr. Camacho graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mankato State University, Mankato, Minn., in 1975. He received his doctorate of philosophy degree in neurophysiology at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1980, and completed a postdoctoral degree using the hippocampal brain slice technique at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla., in 1981. Dr. Camacho obtained his medical degree at the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1985. He completed a neurosurgical residency at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., in 1991, followed by epilepsy surgical training, in 1993. Dr. Camacho also completed additional epilepsy surgical training at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1994. He worked as an assistant scientist in the area of neural transplantation at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis., from August 1998 through August 1999. He is board certified in neurological surgery and is a member of the Society of Neurosurgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and Alpha Omega Alpha, to name a few.
As a neurological surgeon, Dr. Camacho treats surgical conditions of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system. Some of his surgical experience includes treating the following diseases or injuries to the body: intra-cranial aneurysms and vascular malformations, brain tumors, inter-vertebral disc disorders or fractures; spinal fluid disorders, spinal tumors, and trauma to the head and spine. He has an interest in minimally invasive spinal surgery and revision spinal surgery.
