Stormont-Vail Foundation Receives $10,000 Grant from Kansas Health Foundation

(Topeka, Kan., June 20, 2011) – The Stormont-Vail Foundation has been awarded a $10,000 grant through the Kansas Health Foundation's Recognition Grants program. This money will help support the Care Line, a program that helps when a Stormont-Vail patient has no other place to turn. Some of the patients are assisted with prescription medicine, meals, transportation and temporary lodging.

"We greatly appreciate the support of the Kansas Health Foundation for our Care Line program," said Don Schepker, president and executive director of the Stormont-Vail Foundation. "The Care Line program is entirely funded by donor support and the support of the Kansas Health Foundation will help us to ensure that patient needs continue to be met during a time of growing need."

For more information about the Care Line, or to learn how you can make a donation, please visit www.stormontvail.org or contact Heather Whitton at (785) 354-6851 or hwhitton@stormontvail.org.

Recognition Grants expand the Kansas Health Foundation's support to a broad range of health-related organizations throughout the state. While the majority of the Foundation's funding is through invited proposals, the Recognition Grants program is designed to fund unsolicited requests. It is targeted for organizations and agencies proposing meaningful and charitable projects that fit within the Foundation's mission of improving the health of all Kansans.

"We truly appreciate the work that our Recognition Grantees do to serve Kansans," said Steve Coen, president and CEO of the Kansas Health Foundation. "We're hopeful that more Kansans will become aware of these grants and how this funding can improve the health of communities all across our state."

This spring the Kansas Health Foundation provided nearly $750,000 through this program to help organizations accomplish more than 40 different projects intended to improve the health and wellness of Kansans. Using a competitive application process, the Foundation allocates up to $2 million each year for the Recognition Grants program. Application deadlines for the two cycles are March 15 and Sept. 15 each year. Any
tax-exempt, nonprofit organization using the money for charitable purposes and proposing a project that meets the Foundation's mission to improve the health of all Kansans is eligible.
