(Topeka, Kan., July 21, 2011) – Stormont-Vail HealthCare has received a number one ranking among 461 participating hospitals across the nation participating in a national study monitored by the American College of Cardiology, National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR). The Stormont-Vail team of health specialists has been successful at interrupting heart attacks in 100 percent of patients within the 90-minute timeframe and therefore received the number one ranking. This is important because national studies show that complying with evidence-based clinical guidelines for heart attack treatment significantly improves patient outcomes.
Within the past year, Stormont-Vail has achieved:
- Accreditation as a Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
- A 100 percent compliance score for delivery of recommended care for a heart attack within 90 minutes.
- A median door-to-balloon time of 55 minutes. This is the speed in which a hospital performs a coronary intervention in a patient experiencing a heart attack.
The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association partnered to establish a national quality improvement program focused on assessing the characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of high-risk patients hospitalized due to a heart attack. This national program reviews patient outcomes through the implementation of evidence-based guideline recommendations. The overall program is designed to improve the quality and safety of the heart attack patient; and to investigate quality improvement methods for the future.
