Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks in Nation

(Topeka, Kan., Feb. 18, 2010) - Stormont-Vail HealthCare has been named one of the top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks in the country, marking the sixth time in a decade that the organization has earned a place on the list as determined by an independent research organization.

The ranking was announced by SDI in Modern Health Care Magazine, which is a major independent trade journal. SDI is regarded as the nation's premier rating system. The annual Integrated Health Network (IHN) 100, ranks the Top 100 networks among the country's 593 non-specialty, local and regional health care systems for their performance and degree of integration. The analysis rates each network's ability to operate as a unified organization in eight categories: integration, integrated technology, contractual capabilities, outpatient utilization, financial stability, services and access, hospital utilization, and physicians.

Stormont-Vail is the only health care organization in Kansas listed in the Top 100 and was ranked 69th is this year's standings. Stormont-Vail was first listed in the Top 100 in 2001.

"The recognition of being a Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Network showcases our efforts to provide quality and comprehensive health services in northeast Kansas," said Maynard Oliverius, president and chief executive officer of Stormont-Vail HealthCare. "It is a credible measure of our performance in providing the best integrated health care services to our community."

In addition to the Top 100 designation, Stormont-Vail has had a banner year in recognitions. The organization achieved Magnet nursing status, the gold standard in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, in 2009. The American College of Surgeons verified Stormont-Vail a Level II Trauma Center, and Stormont-Vail opened a state-of-the-art Emergency and Trauma Center and new patient tower. The organization's Cotton-O'Neil Cancer Center also received accreditation as a comprehensive cancer program from the Commission on Cancer, and the Cotton-O'Neil Digestive Health Center was recognized for quality and safety by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Stormont-Vail HealthCare is an integrated health care system with 4,000 employees serving northeast Kansas. Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center, a 586-bed acute care center, and Cotton-O'Neil Clinic are part of the system. The system also includes PediatricCare, Medical Arts Pharmacy, Jane C. Stormont Women's Health Center, Stormont-Vail Single Day Surgery, Stormont-Vail Foundation and a baccalaureate nursing program affiliation with Baker University.
