Cotton-O’Neil Clinic Adds Two Additional General Surgeons to Medical Staff

(Topeka, Kan., October 20, 2008) – Cotton-O’Neil Clinic, a part of the Stormont-Vail HealthCare system, announces the addition of two surgeons who have recently joined the general surgery practice. These surgeons will also use their expertise as part of the Stormont-Vail Trauma Center medical staff. This brings the total number of board certified Cotton-O’Neil Clinic general surgeons to six.

Michael McCann, D.O. joined the Cotton-O’Neil general surgeons in October. He relocated from St. Mary’s/Duluth Health System, in Duluth, Mich. He specializes in general, trauma and critical care surgery.

Dr. McCann received his osteopathic medicine degree from Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, Calif., in 1999. He completed an internal medicine internship, followed by a general surgery residency at Michigan State University, Genesys Regional Medical Center, Grand Blanc, Mich., in 2004. He then completed a trauma fellowship at Henry Ford Health System, Hurley Medical Center, Flint, Mich. in 2005 and a surgical critical care fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Mich. in 2006.

Dr. McCann is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. He is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Bradley Woods, M.D. joined Cotton-O’Neil Clinic in September. He is a 1991 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served in the U.S. Army from 1992 to 1994 in Bamberg, Germany. He specializes in general, trauma and critical care surgery.

Upon his return from military duty, Dr. Woods attended medical school and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, in 1998. He then completed a surgery internship followed by a general surgery residency at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, in 2003. He is board certified in general surgery.

After the completion of his medical education, Dr. Woods served as a staff general surgeon in two tours of duty in Iraq. Most recently he has served as the Chief of General Surgery and Chairman of the Cancer Committee and Tumor Board at Irwin Army Community Hospital, in Fort Riley, Kansas. He has been awarded several military decorations, including the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal.
