Diabetes Learning Center
The Diabetes Learning Center (DLC) located on the lower level of the Cotton-O’Neil Diabetes and Endocrinology Center is part of the Stormont-Vail HealthCare family. The goal of the DLC is to:
Provide education, motivation, support and hope for people living with the challenges of managing diabetes. Each diabetes educator is focused on helping people control their diabetes and minimizing the risks for complications so that diabetic patients can live life to its fullest.
Let Us Help You Manage Your Diabetes
The DLC can help prepare you with the knowledge needed to help you manage your diabetes. Whether you are newly diagnosed with diabetes, have had diabetes a long time or just want to improve the ability to control your diabetes, the certified diabetes educators at the DLC can offer the assistance and support needed to ensure that your active level of participation leads to success.
We regularly see hundreds of patients, from infants to senior adults, who are affected by either of these diseases:
- Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
- Gestational diabetes
- Pre-diabetes
Learn from Certified Diabetes Educators
The DLC consists of registered nurses and registered dietitians who are specialists in diabetic education. We are truly committed to helping you understand and take care of your diabetes.
Referrals to the Diabetes Learning Center
The DLC works with patients from all areas of the community. You do not need to be a Cotton-O’Neil patient to utilize our services. However, it is recommended that you talk with your physician about a referral for diabetes education at the DLC.
Financial Fees for Diabetes Education
It is important to know that Medicare and many health insurance providers pay for diabetes education. Some plans require a co-payment at every visit. It is recommended that you check with your insurance provider to determine exactly what is covered under your individual plan.
About Our Support Groups
The DLC offers individual sessions as well as group classes that cover the areas of diet and nutrition, physical activity, understanding diabetes, medications, monitoring your blood glucose, treating a low blood glucose, guidelines for illness, reducing risks for complications and coping with a chronic illness.
We have found that bringing a friend or family member to class with you makes a significant level of improvement in management of your condition.

- Insulin Pumps
- Problem Solving and Management Issues

Support Group Schedules
Support groups are available at no charge during the day or evening for your convenience.
Morning Session:
- Every Tuesday – 10 to 11 a.m. (Except holidays)
