Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Stormont-Vail HealthCare opened a six-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in 2011 that provides specialized care close to home for critically-ill children under age 18. This multi-disciplinary unit serves patients with a wide range of pediatric conditions including severe asthma or other severe respiratory services, diabetes complications, infections, trauma and those recovering from major surgery.
The PICU provides the highest level of care to critically-ill medical and surgical patients including trauma care, advanced respiratory and nutritional support. The PICU has a variety of pediatric subspecialists who are part of the pediatric medical staff and are available to provide care to the critical care patients. Our team of pediatric intensivists is available to provide treatment, consultation or a second opinion for patients with complex medical needs or that require a team approach to their care.
