Medical Imaging Services

Medical Imaging Services provides computed tomography, diagnostic radiology, DXA (bone density), magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic ultrasound. We also have x-ray services in many of our Cotton-O’Neil Clinics.

Computerized Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) have become among the most important tools to diagnose medical diseases and illnesses. The technology is especially useful in emergency situations when faster diagnosis can be lifesaving.

Our CT capabilities include the region's first Somatom Definition AS+ 128-slice CT scanner. The 128-slice is in addition to our 64-slice and 20-slice CT scan machines. The new technologies on our scanners allow us to provide service to bariatric patients.

Two MRI scanners are available in the hospital with a third system located at 8th and Mulvane for outpatient convenience. The systems all operate at 1.5T, supporting cardiac, angiography, and diagnostic breast scanning capabilities.

In Nuclear Medicine, we have the first integrated SPECT/CT machine in Topeka, which brings a whole new dimension to the Nuclear Medicine department. This allows the capability to acquire SPECT and diagnostic multislice-CT studies concurrently, speeding efficiency, and eliminating the need for patients to move back and forth between modalities.
