Stormont-Vail WoundCare Center®People suffering from chronic, hard-to-heal wounds can now receive the most advanced treatments in wound care right here in Topeka. The Stormont-Vail WoundCare Center® is the only facility in Topeka to have a dedicated physician and to offer hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy. Previously patients had to travel outside Topeka to receive this treatment. HBO therapy increases the level of oxygen in the patient’s blood, aiding in accelerated wound healing, preserving damaged tissues, controlling infection and increasing blood vessel formation. The HBO chamber circulates 100 percent oxygen at a pressure of two to three times greater than atmospheric pressure. People with wounds resulting primarily from diabetes, pressure ulcers or circulatory problems will meet with Stormont-Vail WoundCare Center® staff who will work in partnership with the patients’ referring physicians. The center’s focus is on treating the patients’ persistent wounds. Services at Stormont-Vail WoundCare Center® are designed to help patients significantly improve their quality of life.
