 Benefits of Volunteering

MeganMegan Cunningham, Day Captain

“I think that volunteering at Stormont-Vail has made me a better person, because I have found out that you can find a friend in the most unlikely places and its fun meeting them, too.”

Stormont-Vail HealthCare offers its volunteers the opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge, to develop new interests, to expand their social and personal support networks; and to derive satisfaction from assisting others through compassion and understanding. Stormont-Vail HealthCare values its volunteers. The hospital extends several courtesies to its volunteers:

Meal Allowance

Stormont-Vail HealthCare offers volunteers a complimentary meal in the hospital cafeteria or Food Connection on days when a minimum three-hour shift has been completed.

Parking

While on duty, volunteers are entitled to complimentary parking the 3rd floor and above in the main parking garage on the hospital campus.

Fitness Center

Eligible volunteers may join the Fitness Center located in the Pozez Education Center and is available to active volunteers.  Please contact Volunteer Services for more information.

Health Benefits

Besides the great sense of well-being and satisfaction you receive by volunteers, we offer other health benefits to you.  Blood pressure screening is available to all volunteers and is performed at either the Employee Health office - Thursdays, 10:30 – 11:30 am or at the HealthWise 55 office, 2252 SW 10 (next to Medical Arts Pharmacy) - Tuesdays, 10:00am – 1:00pm.  Annual influenza immunizations are also available and free of charge to all volunteers.  Volunteers are strongly encouraged to receive the immunization.

References

References for employment or education purposes are provided upon request for adult volunteers who have contributed a minimum of fifty or more hours of service and for youth volunteers who have completed a minimum of 32 hours of service.

Scholarship Program

The youth scholarship program is designed to assist students interested in careers in the medical field.  This program is funded by the Stormont-Vail Auxiliary and administered through the Stormont-Vail Foundation.  The scholarships are in the amount of $500.  For more information, contact the Volunteer Services office.

Other

Volunteers may also receive a complimentary registration to hospital-sponsored CEU programs (based on availability), a monthly newsletter, holiday gift certificate, and other recognition incentives.
