Stormont Vail Health will be sponsoring a 5K Fun Run celebrating community nurses beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 12, at Cotton O’Neil Kanza Park, 2660 S.W. Third St. The event is free and open to the public.
The 5K Fun Run will be held on the final day of the 2018 National Nurses Week and on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
“Nurses play such a vital role in the health care system,” Carol Perry, chief nursing officer, said. “We appreciate that our nurses provide innovative, effective and compassionate care for our community.”
With the active role that nurses play in the health care field, it is important to recognize them in a similar way.
“Professional nurses are leaders in advancing health and wellness in our community,” Paula Sanders, RN, 5K committee chairperson, said. “This seemed like the perfect event to both celebrate our nurses while promoting their physical, emotional and professional well-being.”
Every participant who registers by noon on April 27 will receive a free T-shirt. Event sponsors include Sunflower Striders, GreatLIFE Golf and Fitness, Topeka Hy-Vee and Bumble Balloons.
