Stomachaches, diarrhea, heartburn — we’ve all experienced these at some point in our lives. Sometimes they’re a nuisance — but nothing too serious. Other times, these are a red flag.
That’s when you may need to see a gastroenterologist.
Gastroenterologists treat disorders of the liver and gastrointestinal (digestive) tract. They’re your go-to physicians if you have problems with your:
- Esophagus
- Stomach
- Small intestine
- Colon (large intestine)
- Rectum
- Pancreas
- Gallbladder
- Liver
- Bile ducts
Gastroenterologists here at Cotton O’Neil Health have extensive training and education in diagnosing, treating and managing these digestive disorders. Because they are specialists, they most likely know your condition as soon as they see it.
When you see a gastroenterologist, you’re receiving specialized care. However, the gastroenterology team at Stormont Vail Health is committed to treating the entire patient – not just the condition – by making the Digestive Health department a one-stop-shop.
We aim to keep you healthy by supporting you with any other needs that come up during treatment. As a patient, you will have access to counselors, social workers, pastoral care, financial advisors, and nutritionists, to make sure that we’re taking care of your entire body.
While you’re going through treatment, it’s important to keep up with your primary care provider. Your primary care provider can help you manage your digestive disorder, as well as keep up with routine care, like vaccinations and screenings for other chronic conditions.
