Stormont-Vail's Emergency and Trauma Center provides around-the-clock emergency and trauma service seven days a week. Emergency and Trauma Center is at the northeast corner of Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center.
The public entrance to the Emergency and Trauma Center is just west of Eighth and Washburn. Patients and visitors should enter off of Eighth Avenue at Horne, then turn east into the driveway in front of the Pozez Education Center and into the facility's parking lot. The ambulance entrance is on Washburn Avenue, just south of Eighth Street.
In case of an emergency, call 911 or go immediately to the Emergency Department. If it is after-hours and you are unsure whether you need to go to the Emergency Department, call Health Connections Nurse Information Line at (785) 354-5225. A nurse will provide you with information and help determine the best course of action.
To provide the highest level of care for critically injured patients in northeast Kansas, Stormont-Vail HealthCare launched Trauma Services. This program is a coordinated effort between multiple internal departments at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center, and city and county emergency services to ensure a rapid response for the delivery of care to critically injured patients.
Stormont-Vail HealthCare received verification as a Level III Trauma Center from the American College of Surgeons on August 31, 2006. That verification was elevated to a Level II center in 2009. Requirements for verification are rigorous and demanding. www.facs.org/trauma/verified.html
