I’m Dr. Salamat. I’m one of the cancer specialists at Stormont Vail Cancer Center. It’s a wonderful environment. I have good colleagues over here. In fact, I came over here after talking with one of my colleagues, and he was very happy over here. My areas of interest are lung cancer, and I’m very passionate about lymphomas and mylenomas, but I also treat a lot of breast cancer, so those are my areas of interest and passion.
Once they get a diagnosis, there’s a lot of worry from their perspective and their family’s perspective. So they come over here, and they want to know what their options are and what we can do to help them and to cope with this diagnosis which they have, which is obviously not a good diagnosis to have cancer.
We treat cancer mostly with chemotherapy, but we have other modalities. We have a lot of clinical research over here with new medications that are coming up and not being used in a normal setting, so that’s an advantage, and I’m working closely with our research department. We are there to help you.We are there to address all of your concerns. We are there to provide you resources in this difficult time.
We like our patients to come over here, talk to us, bring their concerns, ask us questions, whatever they have. Right now it’s a very exciting field. There’s a lot of research going on. We have a challenge to overcome and, hopefully, cure all of these cancers one day. And that’s the most exciting part that keeps me over here. And also to see what we can do to incorporate different modalities of treatment into my field. So, every day is a new challenge with a new patient and with the new treatments.
