(Topeka, Kan., April 19, 2013) – Karen Hammond, MSN, NP-C, CNN-NP, Cotton-O’Neil Clinic – Nephrology, became the highest scorer in the country after taking the Certified Nephrology Nurse Practitioner certification exam. Hammond is also certified in Family Practice by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
About the NNCC
The NNCC was established in 1987 to develop and implement certification examinations for nephrology nursing. Monday April 8, 2013
(Topeka, Kan., April 8, 2013) – Two Stormont-Vail HealthCare employees from the area received recognition at Stormont-Vail HealthCare’s 50th Annual Employee Awards Banquet in February, and another received recognition in March.
Vida Lewis, RN, clinic office manager, Cotton-O’Neil Clinic, Carbondale and Osage, received a Lamley award for her exceptional service to patients. The Lamley Award was named for Carl Charles Lamley and the high performance standards he set. Vida is also a past Employee of the Quarter.
Vida has been a nurse at Stormont-Vail since 1999. Her nominators shared that she comes to work every day with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She fosters cooperation and compassion throughout her work environment. She is willing and able to set the example and get her hands dirty taking on multiple job roles. Vida provides leadership to multiple clinics, and is always available to help with staff and physician questions and clinic issues.
Missy Brauner, lab assistant, Stormont-Vail HealthCare, received a Pusitz Award for her outstanding patient care. The Pusitz Awards were created in 1970 when Manuel E. Pusitz established a trust in honor of his wife Anne’s outstanding care while a patient at Stormont-Vail. This trust provided funds to be used as awards for nurse’s aides and orderlies who exemplified the care his wife received. The guidelines were later broadened. This award is given to four Stormont-Vail employees who have performed exemplary acts of compassion, caring or communication with patients.
Missy has seven years of service with Stormont-Vail. She is described as an extremely kind and caring individual. Her patient’s well being is always her primary concern, and she goes out of her way to make their experience at Stormont-Vail as pleasant as possible. Missy had a patient over the holiday season that was depressed because of family circumstances. After the patient’s blood was collected, she purchased a small Christmas tree for the patient. The patient was overwhelmed by Missy’s generosity.
Darin Carter, LPN, Carbondale and Osage City Clinics, was recently named Stormont-Vail HealthCare Employee of the Quarter, in March. Employees are nominated by their peers for their outstanding commitment to their career and to the patients we serve.
After seven months of service, Darin has proven to be a great asset to Stormont-Vail. He always has an upbeat and positive attitude. He is a knowledgeable, caring and dependable nurse. His co-workers enjoy his subtle humor and willingness to help others. Darin helps our patients in any way he can and is an advocate for the elderly.
He has only worked in at the clinic for several months as a float LPN. Darin went “Above and Beyond” during the past year. He was walking down the hall and happened to look out the front window and saw an elderly man out in our parking lot with his truck hood up broken down. Darin did not hesitate and went out to assist this man in finding the problem and getting his truck started again so he could head home. It was over 100 degrees outside. He not only helped him out with his truck, but also was there to help the patient.
