Stormont-Vail HealthCare employees donate $128,288 to the I Care. I Give. 2013 Giving Campaign

(Topeka, Kan., May 8, 2013) – Stormont-Vail HealthCare employees contributed $128,288 to the Stormont-Vail Foundation I Care. I Give. Employee Giving campaign in the month of April. Monies raised support three vital programs and services funded through the Foundation: the Care Line, Education and Emerging Needs.
The Care Line: The Care Line, a signature program of the Stormont-Vail Foundation, serves patients in need. More than 6,800 Stormont-Vail HealthCare patients in 2012 received assistance through: meal and gas vouchers, temporary lodging, prescription assistance, clothing and durable medical goods. Care Line 2012 assistance included $78,500 in prescriptions, 543 nights of temporary lodging, 2,591 pieces of clothing, and more than $24,650 in transportation vouchers for cabs, bus fare or gas, including a way for transient patients to get home or to a family member.
“We are proud that our caregivers are able to help patients after discharge,” said Jane Mackey, President and Executive Director of the Stormont-Vail Foundation. “Care Line is often the answer to prayers of patients with nowhere else to turn. The need for Care Line services sharply increased in 2012 and because of the community’s and employee generosity, we were able to meet all of the needs.”
Education: Each year 40 to 50 staff members, including clinic staff, receive continuing education with Foundation support and more than 150 nursing students receive scholarships. Community education programs such as HealthWise55, as well as prenatal classes, are also supported.
Emerging needs: The Stormont-Vail Foundation works in tandem with Stormont-Vail HealthCare to identify and respond to capital and departmental needs. Projects range from the $5.2 million Neonatal Intensive Care unit campaign to small projects that improve the day-to-day efficiency of departments.
“The generosity of our physicians and employees impacts the way we are able to help patients,” Randy Peterson, President and CEO Stormont-Vail HealthCare said. “Our caregivers understand that wellness extends beyond a patient visit and their gifts prove their commitment to community wellness.”
During the month-long campaign employees who signed up to donate were entered into weekly drawings for prizes. Community members and local businesses supported the giving program by providing prizes and underwriting.
