Many people with joint pain do a lot to delay treatment. They take over-the-counter meds. They change how they move to compensate for the pain. They even cut back on some of their favorite activities because they don’t want to deal with the aches.
But you don’t have to live like that. If you have had a shoulder, knee, or hip replacement surgery at Stormont Vail Hospital, the Total Joint Center is here to help you return to the life you had before the pain.
The Stormont Vail Total Joint Center provides pre- and post-surgical education to our patients to help them through surgery and recovery — from tips on nutrition to home exercises that can help them:
- Strengthen their muscles before surgery
- Improve their strength, mobility, and coordination after surgery
Patients who receive education before having joint replacement surgery report less anxiety before surgery and better pain management, afterward.
The Stormont Vail Total Joint Center is designed especially for patients who are having hip, knee, or shoulder joint replacement surgery at Stormont Vail Hospital. A surgeon or charge nurse can refer you to the program. As one of our patients, you will receive the Stormont Vail Total Joint Center Patient Handbook. Also, all patients are also followed by a Care Manager who is available to answer any questions the patient may have, pre and post-op.
The Total Joint Center is accredited as an Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Program through the Joint Commission — an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 health care organizations and programs.
