About

I’m Dave Einspahr. I’m a practicing physician in Topeka at the Cotton O’Neil Clinic. I see patients referred to me from inside the clinic and from physicians in the northeast Kansas area.

Working with new clinical trials is probably the most interesting thing. Introducing patients to newer treatments that offer a little better improvement, a little less toxicity. Being able to offer the latest treatments available for each disease is probably the most stimulating or challenging. We have a wide variety of patients given the geography we serve between Topeka, Fort Riley and Manhattan, and then the rural areas, so we have a variety of patients which makes good interesting in itself.

I think patients can trust me because of the reputation I have among the referring physicians who send patients to me. I’ve been in practice for a good time now, so physicians know who they’re referring to when they send patients to me. Another reason the patients can feel assured when they come to see us is that the Cancer Center is accredited not only by The Joint Commission, but also by the American College of Surgeons by their Commission on Cancer. And we have regular accreditation scheduled for that, which we have been fully accredited now for at least 15 years.

I’d say it’s always helpful to have someone thoughtful accompany them. It’s a lot of information sometimes in a visit to remember it all, and another set of ears can be very helpful in remembering things. Knowing their condition and their family history, and in particular the health of their family, can be helpful in sorting out the cause of some cancers, so that’s helpful, too.

It’s very satisfying to have families comment in social settings of the care that one of my patients has received. That’s probably the most satisfying thing.
