About

I’m Dr. Shaun Steeby, and I’m the orthopedic traumatologist here at Stormont Vail and Cotton O’Neil Orthopedics, which means that I deal with all the complicated fractures.

What conditions do you treat?

I see everything from little kids that fall down and break their arm, to older patients that break their ankle, to people that have been involved in the worst car accident of their entire life. Anybody who has a really traumatic fracture is within the scope of my care.

How did you become interested in orthopedics?

I first became interested in orthopedics mostly because I found that restoring people to their lifestyle and not just their life was something that was really valuable to me. Getting people back to doing the stuff that they like to do.

Why did you choose to work at Stormont Vail Health?

I choose to work at Stormont because most people who do what I do tend to do it in big cities and academic centers … Trying to keep good quality care within the community was really important to me.

How would you describe what a typical patient is experiencing when they first come to you?

Every fracture is different. They’re each their own special puzzle that has to be put together in their own unique way. And every patient is different, and so the needs that they have with the injuries that they have require problem solving that’s different with every case.

A lot of what people experience have an excellent potential for a really good outcome, but time is of the utmost importance for us to get them there.
