SUPERFOOD for a Super You!

It’s fun to keep up on the latest and greatest health food hacks! If you like to stay in the know on the latest trends, you know that the superfood list is always growing. Now we know which foods can provide extensive vitamins, help eyesight, boost metabolism, and so on. However, it can be a little tricky finding out how to prepare jicama or quinoa if you’ve never had it before.

Luckily, there are every day, ordinary foods that are being added to the list of superfoods for a super you.

EGGPLANT

Eggplant is an up-and-comer on the superfood list. This purple beauty is a staple in many cuisines and for good reason. Eggplant is not only low in calories and sodium, but has an abundance of dietary fiber, potassium, B vitamins, and more. If you aren’t sold on eggplant already – it also supports heart health, cholesterol, and fights against diseases like cancer.

SEAWEED

While seaweed hasn’t been considered as ‘ordinary’ in the past, it is quickly becoming a household staple on the superfood list. Seaweed contains a multitude of vitamins, fatty and amino acids, proteins, and 10x more minerals than land-based plants.

PUMPKIN

Did you know a half cup of pumpkin is only 15 calories? It’s also chalk-full of iron, zinc, fiber, and vitamin C. A great health benefit comes in the form of pumpkin substances that help to prevent cataracts and the risk of macular degeneration. Don’t forget the seeds! Pumpkin seeds are a tasty treat filled with protein, fiber, iron, magnesium, and so much more.

BLACK RICE

We’ve all heard that blueberries have a huge amount of antioxidants, but with black rice you get even more antioxidants without the sugar from berries. Not only does this ‘forbidden’ rice have antioxidants, its nutritious breakdown also helps to boost immunity and protect against cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other common health conditions.
