Cynthia Hornberger New Chair of Stormont Vail Health Board; Two Longtime Members Retire from Board

Cynthia Hornberger, Ph.D., APRN-CNS, was elected chair of the Stormont Vail Health Board of Directors at the board’s recent annual meeting. Longtime board members Pamela Johnson-Betts and Brenda Mills retired from the board. The board is made up of community volunteers providing oversight to Stormont Vail Health, an independent, Topeka-based integrated healthcare network. Stormont Vail is a non-profit healthcare system led and operated by Kansans focused on improving the health of Kansans.

Dr. Hornberger first worked as an Emergency Room nurse, then pursued an academic career at Washburn University, ultimately serving as Dean of the School of Nursing and later as Special Assistant to the President. Now a professor emeritus, she is an adjunct instructor in the School of Nursing’s graduate program. She joined the Stormont Vail board in April 28, 2020. She succeeds Mark Ruelle as chair.

Johnson-Betts joined the Stormont Vail board Oct. 10, 2000, and Mills joined the board May 27, 2014. During their years of service, Betts chaired the Community Committee, and Mills served as chairwoman of the board.

Current members of the Stormont Vail Health Board of Directors include: Tom Bell, Michel’ Cole, Matt Crocker, Kevin Dishman, M.D., Alonzo Harrison, Cynthia Hornberger, Ph.D., Amanda Kiefer, Mark Knackendoffel, Mallory McIntosh, M.D., Robert St. Peter, M.D., Mark Ruelle, James Schmank, SueAnn Schultz, Mark Slyter, DSc, and Richard Wienckowski.

“To Your Health” on WIBW-TV this Thursday
