Stormont Vail Health Celebrates Major Milestone in Diabetes Management

Stormont Vail Health is celebrating several milestones in its Eversense continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) program, including more than 400 patients receiving Eversense 365 sensor and more than 1,000 insertions and removals.

Since introducing Eversense in 2019, Stormont Vail has become the only health system in northeast Kansas to offer the implantable CGM system. What began as a three-month sensor has evolved into a yearlong sensor, allowing patients to go 12 months between replacements instead of changing sensors every few months.

“Most people don’t want diabetes to be the first thing they think about every morning,” said Gary Graf, advanced practice registered nurse practitioner with the Stormont Vail Health Diabetes and Endocrinology Center. “With Eversense 365, patients can get a sensor that lasts an entire year and spend less time managing equipment and more time living their lives.”

Unlike traditional wearable glucose monitors, Eversense features a fully implantable sensor and removable transmitter. Patients can remove the transmitter to shower, swim, exercise, or spend time with grandchildren without worrying about an external sensor getting in the way.

The program’s impact extends beyond convenience. Stormont Vail Health now serves the largest Eversense 365 Medicare population in the country and has seen improvements in A1C levels, time in range, and overall quality of life.

Stormont Vail also recently became home to the first two patients in northeast Kansas to use the Eversense/Twiist automated insulin delivery system. Together, the technologies work to automate insulin delivery and simplify day-to-day diabetes management.

For the more than 31 million Americans living with Type 2 diabetes and others managing Type 1, advancements like Eversense may help improve quality of life while reducing long-term complications such as kidney disease, vision loss, and amputations. For people living with diabetes, these milestones represent more than numbers; they represent greater freedom, glucose control, and new options for managing their health.
