We Celebrate DAISY Award Winner Ivan Lopez-Hernandez, BSN, RN

Nurses go above and beyond daily to provide patients and families with excellent care. At Stormont Vail Health, our Pediatric Care team ensures that children receive the specialized care they need while supporting families through their healthcare journeys. Their dedication, expertise, and compassion make a significant difference in the lives of children and their families.

As a pediatric nurse with experience in other areas, such as adult and cardiac care, Ivan Lopez-Hernandez’s background allows him to expertly provide appropriate care based on patients’ ages, needs, and stages of development. Of course, caring for such a wide variety of patients can be challenging, but for Ivan, it’s part of the work he loves. For this reason, we celebrate Ivan for his DAISY Award!

The DAISY Award celebrates and recognizes nurses who go the extra mile as a way to thank them for the care and compassion they provide. Ivan, who has provided exceptional care at Stormont Vail since 2023, received three separate nominations.

“We could tell he truly cared about our child and wanted him to get better,” the parent of one of his patients wrote in one nomination. “The allowed snacks, games, and sincere ‘Can I get you anything?’ helped our three-day stay feel closer to home.”

Ivan’s actions show how far small acts of kindness can go to make a difference in the present moment. His deeds encompass the spirit of what the DAISY Award celebrates and inspire us to strive for excellence in our own roles.

Nomination #1

“Ivan was fantastic with my 10-year-old son! He came in with a smile every time to check in or to clear the IV beeping. We could tell he truly cared about our child and wanted him to get better. The allowed snacks, games, and sincere “Can I get you anything?” helped our three-day stay feel closer to home. Thank you, Ivan!”

Nomination #2

“Ivan made sure my husband felt comfortable and educated about the procedure he was having. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and his relaxed and kind attitude and personality made an otherwise nerve-racking hospital stay very much more enjoyable. Thank you, Ivan, for tolerating us and making a hard situation so much easier.”

Nomination #3

“I have been in the hospital for five days with no answers. Ivan came in with a positive attitude and a willingness to help. He made me feel heard and seen. He made sure we knew all of our options, and he would answer any questions he could. It was refreshing to feel heard and seen. We’ve been fighting for answers for so long, and having Ivan there to support and listen to us was extraordinary. I am so thankful I got to have him as a nurse, and I wish him nothing but the best.”
