We Celebrate DAISY Award Winner Sadie Miller, BSN, RN

Nurses go above and beyond daily to provide patients and families with excellent care. At the Stormont Vail Health Birthplace in Topeka, the Mother and Baby team delivers care and support so babies, mothers, and their families can enjoy the best start possible.

To achieve this goal, one of this team’s most crucial tasks is providing emotional guidance during labor and delivery. With the right blend of empathy and expertise, nurses like Sadie Miller can make all the difference for laboring mothers. For this reason, we celebrate Sadie for her DAISY Award!

The DAISY Award celebrates and recognizes nurses who go the extra mile as a way to thank them for the care and compassion they provide. Sadie, who has provided exceptional care at Stormont Vail since 2023, received nominations from a patient she cared for in the Birthplace and her very own colleague.

“During my labor experience, Sadie…knew exactly what to do to help my labor progress as needed and how to help me through the entire experience,” her patient wrote in one nomination. “I’m so glad she was a part of my care team! I greatly appreciated her sweet, compassionate personality and calm presence during my daughter’s birth.”

Sadie, we know you became a nurse because you have an authentic passion for helping others. We know you do all of these things with or without recognition because you encompass the spirit of what the DAISY Award celebrates.

The attention you give your patients both inspires and reminds us why small moments matter. Your dedication to your profession, our patients, and our organization is truly inspiring and motivates us to strive for excellence in our own roles!

Nomination #1

“During my labor experience, Sadie was caring and consistently checking in on how I was doing. She knew exactly what to do to help my labor progress as needed and how to help me through the entire experience. After my baby was born, Sadie was reassuring, kind, and gentle in caring for me. I’m so glad she was a part of my care team! I greatly appreciated her sweet, compassionate personality and calm presence during my daughter’s birth.”

Nomination #2

“I came in for a scheduled induction at 40 weeks. After struggling with infertility for years and finally getting pregnant with our miracle IVF baby, my husband and I were beyond excited to meet our little one, but also nervous as this was our first time going through labor. In comes Sadie, the sweetest nurse we have ever met.

“She was very calming and encouraging to us both the entire day. She helped me breathe through my contractions, change positions as needed for our baby, answer my husband’s questions, and help him try to comfort me.

“Toward the end of my labor, extra nurses kept coming in to check on us. Being in the medical field myself, I figured they saw concerning things on the fetal monitor. Still, the entire time, Sadie remained calm and knowledgeable about what intervention they needed to do to improve the readings. Throughout the whole process, my husband and I were never overly stressed or worried because we could tell that we were in good hands and Sadie would get us through it.

“Toward the end of her shift, my labor progressed very quickly when I went from a three to a 10, and my baby was ready to go. She got Dr. Gleason very quickly, and it seemed like our baby was born healthy and safely within minutes. We were so thankful to have Sadie all day and that the delivery happened during her shift. She made me proud to say that I work at Stormont Vail Health, knowing that there are nurses like her who take care of patients. Thank you, Sadie!”
