We Celebrate DAISY Award Winner Suzette Keck, RN, C-ELBW

Nurses go above and beyond daily to provide patients and families with excellent care. For Suzette Keck, RN, C-ELBW at the Stormont Vail Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Topeka, impacting our community’s health starts by supporting our littlest patients—and their parents. For this reason, we celebrate Suzette for her DAISY Award!

The DAISY Award celebrates and recognizes nurses who go the extra mile as a way to thank them for the care and compassion they provide. Suzette, who has provided patient care at Stormont Vail Health for almost 30 years, received a nomination from her patient’s parents, expressing how much her care means to them.

“Our nurse [Suzette] was a big part of our son’s NICU journey,” the mother of Suzette’s patient wrote in the nomination. “After about an hour of holding him [the infant] upright after a feeding, I laid him down, walked to the other side of the crib, turned, and he was choking. All I had to say was Suzette’s name! She took him from me and started to work on getting him to breathe. To say that our family is so thankful for Suzette and what she did for our son that day (and every day) is the biggest understatement of the century. She will always have a special place in our hearts.”

Suzette, congratulations on winning the DAISY Award! Caring for our littlest patients is an essential job, and it is paramount to be able to do it while supporting their parents. Thank you for being part of our team. As your nomination states, “You are a superhero.”
