We’re proud to celebrate Marissa Arredondo, Acute Care RN at the Stormont Vail Health Spine Center, for receiving the DAISY Award.
Her patient’s nomination tells the story: after a traumatic accident, Marissa combined expert care with simple acts of kindness—helping with a shower, braiding hair, ensuring comfort. These gestures may seem small, but they were life‑changing.

“She is the embodiment of compassionate, patient-centered care and has left an unforgettable impression on me, as one of her patients, I can confidently say she is one of the most outstanding nurses I have ever met. From the very beginning, she provided care that went far beyond clinical tasks, she restored dignity and humanity to me during a vulnerable time. She not only helped me shower but also washed and braided my hair, helped me get dressed, and made sure I was comfortable and clean in bed. These acts may seem small to some, but to me during my time as a patient, they were life-changing. Helping me feel like a human will NEVER EVER be forgotten, and always cherished.
“What made her truly stand out was not just her technical skill, but her ability to listen, like really listen. She sat and listened to me talk about my traumatic car accident without interruption or judgment, showing empathy in a way that was healing in itself. You just listened. That meant so much on its own. Her kindness, humility, and tireless advocacy are evident in every aspect of her work. She is literally the definition of a superb nurse, fabulous, and a force to be reckoned with.
“I have thought about becoming a nurse one day and if I ever do, I will strive to be like her, which speaks truly speaks volumes about the kind of role model she is.
