Congressman Derek Schmidt Visits the Baker School of Nursing

Recently, Congressman Derek Schmidt visited the Baker School of Nursing at Stormont Vail Health to see firsthand how students are being impacted by the program’s unique partnership with Stormont Vail. This collaboration is helping prepare the next generation of nurses with real-world experience and a strong foundation for the future of healthcare. We thank Congressman Schmidt for taking the time to visit with our team!

“To Your Health” on WIBW-TV Tonight – The Prine Family

In honor of National Donate Life Month, we share the story of Sydney Prine and her family. After a tragic car accident, Sydney’s decision to register as an organ donor gave life to others, including giving her heart to a recipient on Christmas Day. The Prine Family shares their emotional journey and the impacts of organ donation in tonight’s segment.

The “To Your Health” segment airs at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. It typically repeats at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and is posted on wibw.com.

Stormont Vail Foundation Hosts “A Day in the Life” Event

The Stormont Vail Foundation hosted its first “A Day in the Life” event of 2025 at our Topeka campus. Twenty-two attendees were selected to participate in the day-long event that gives an extensive behind the scenes look at our health system operations. Attendees toured multiple departments including Surgery, Lab, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Trauma Bay, Helipad, and Simulation Lab. They also heard special presentations about our history, financials, and clinical research. . The next “A Day in the Life” is scheduled for Oct. 16.

Manhattan Campus Celebrates K-State Master of Science in PA Studies Graduates

On Thursday, April 17, the Manhattan Campus hosted a Celebration Reception for the 2025 Physician Assistant student cohort of 40 students, along with Kansas State University PA program leadership. It was a privilege to participate in this inaugural event. A memorable moment occurred when Dr. Steffen Shamburg, Family Medicine physician, and a student shared a meaningful embrace exemplifying the strong relationships developed through preceptorship. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all preceptors for their time and dedication in supporting the education of the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Stormont Vail Health Announces April 26 Walk with an APRN

Stormont Vail Health invites the Topeka community to its monthly Walk with a Doc program, which promotes health and wellness through casual outdoor exercise. The April walk will be 9 to 10 a.m.  this Saturday at the east side of Lee Arena at Washburn University. Join Janelle Williamson, a Palliative Care APRN at Stormont Vail, to learn how you or a loved one can give others a second chance at living life to its fullest through the selfless gift of organ donation.  A new recipient is added to the organ donation transplant waiting list every 10 minutes.

Prescription Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be this Saturday, but did you know that the Stormont Vail Pharmacy at 830 S.W. Lane, Suite B, has a drug take-back bin where unneeded medications can be dropped off anytime during business hours? It’s important to remove unneeded medications that could cause potential harm.

We together,
Dr. Kenagy
