Get Ready! Healthcare Week is May 12—16, 2025
Healthcare Week celebrates the best in healthcare – OUR TEAM! Our Culture and Wellness team has planned an exciting week for our teams across the Sunflower State, from local food truck favorites to on-site massage therapists. It’s just one small way we try to give back to our healthcare professionals who give their best every day.

Stormont Vail Health Emporia Clinic Raises Money for Radical Life
Our team at the Emporia Clinic recently held a Cinco de Mayo fundraising luncheon for local non-profit Radical Life. Radical Life helps empower families in the community to tackle poverty head-on. The Emporia team raised $231 that will be used to help purchase hygiene items for families in the Radical Life program, in addition to other numerous donations that were received. Great job, Emporia team!
We Recognize DAISY Award Winner Jim Hartman
Congratulations to Jim Hartman, a nurse at our Topeka Campus, for receiving a DAISY Award after supporting a patient during a vulnerable moment. The patient said in the nomination, “I had Jim for three nights. He showed great compassion, empathy, and caring. He held my hand when I was scared and crying. Jim made me feel human and not just a number.”
Retired Social Work Manager Honored
Carolyn Jones, retired nurse manager in the Stormont Vail Emergency Department, was honored last Friday with the Mental Health Awareness Warrior Award at Valeo Foundation’s “Breakfast for Hope.” Carolyn retired from nursing after a 40-year career caring for people with mental health issues. Stormont Vail Health was presenting sponsor of the event.
Sarah Gideon Wins National Award
Sarah Gideon, Executive Director of the Health Innovations Network of Kansas (HINK) since 2016, was recently named the NCHN Outstanding Network Leader by the National Cooperative of Health Networks Association, Inc. (NCHN). Sarah has been involved with NCHN since HINK became a member in 2016. She serves on NCHN’s board and previously been NCHN board secretary, vice president and president.
Sarah champions rural health through various programs and initiatives of HINK. She also has contributed to mental health awareness, behavioral health treatment and suicide prevention the past several years as HINK hospitals and clinics joined forces with agriculture industry organizations and farming communities to create a toolbox of practical, easy to access resources for people on a mental/emotional health journey.
“To Your Health” on WIBW-TV Tonight – Reflections of a CEO
On tonight’s WIBW-TV “To Your Health” segment, I have the opportunity to sit down with News Director Melissa Brunner to reflect on my tenure as President and CEO of Stormont Vail Health. As I countdown to my retirement next week, I feel fortunate to have worked with the exceptional team at Stormont Vail and to have had the extraordinary opportunity to lead an organization so focused on caring for patients and our communities. The WIBW-TV segment will air at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment typically repeats at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and is posted on wibw.com.
