Walk with a Doc Saturday: Join Dr. Kimberly Brey and Dr. Heather Morrison

  • Saturday, March 16, 2024
  • 9–10 a.m.
  • Washburn University Lee Arena (east side)

Join Dr. Kimberly Brey and Dr. Heather Morrison, OB/GYN physicians with Stormont Vail Lincoln Center, on Saturday, March 16, for this month’s Walk with a Doc.

Drs. Brey and Morrison look forward to empowering attendees with a better understanding of women’s health by offering expertise and answers in a casual setting. Team members from Mother and Baby Services will also share information about our events, programs, and resources to support healthier, happier, and holistic pregnancies and deliveries.

You don’t need to register for this free event, but we encourage everyone to wear green in the spirit of spring and new life…and St. Patrick’s Day! While we hope for good weather, we’ll move the walk inside if the weather is too cold or rainy.

You can also hear more from Dr. Brey and Dr. Morrison on “To Your Health,” airing at 10 p.m. tonight on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment typically repeats Friday at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on 13 News This Morning. You can also check it out on wibw.com.

Stormont Vail and KSU Strategize for New Research Collaborative

Stormont Vail Health and Kansas State University held a “Visioning Session” recently to launch strategy discussions about the new KSU-Stormont Vail Research Collaboration. Attendees included more than 50 representatives from the two organizations.

In July, 2023, the two institutions expanded their partnership by establishing a research affiliation agreement. Although the formal affiliation is recent, the two organizations have successfully collaborated in a variety of clinical research protocols over the past several years.

The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate introductions of the research and clinical teams of the two organizations, to initiate collaboration opportunities, and to begin the planning process for the research partnership. The afternoon session included presentations and breakout groups focusing on three early-stage priorities:  patient-centered research, bio-banking and health education partnerships.

Mary Martell, Vice President, Strategy and Regional Development, and Carl Ade, Ph.D., Associate Professor, College of Health and Human Sciences and Director of the Clinical Integrated Physiology Lab at Kansas State spoke at the event. In addition to Mary, attending from Stormont Vail were:

  • Clif Jones M.D., Vice President, Medical Subspecialties
  • Carmen Burns, Director, Research Services
  • Connie Wagers, Regional Director, Procedural and Ambulatory Services
  • Barb Carranza, Administrative Director, Clinical Centers
  • Michael Cox, M.D., Research Medical Director
  • Chen Chow, M.D., Cardiology Medical Director
  • Mehmood Hashmi, M.D., Oncology Medical Director
  • Molly Disbrow, M.D., Gastroenterology, Manhattan Campus
  • Joycelyn Mattoon, M.D., Primary Care, Manhattan Campus
  • Fatma Radhi, M.D., Neurology Manhattan Campus
  • Austin Jackson, System Director, Strategy & Systems Improvement
  • Braden Shackelford, Administrative Director, Primary Care and Medical Specialties

Next steps include developing the structure of the collaborative, such as working committees, process creation, etc. Stormont Vail is currently hiring a Research Program Manager to be located at Stormont Vail’s Manhattan Campus.

Brad Parry, ATC Joins Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame

Brad Parry, MS, LAT, ATC, and a Stormont Vail Health athletic training team member since 1987, has been on the field … the court … and the mats for nearly 40 years. Now Brad can add another accomplishment to his lengthy list of achievements: induction into the Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame! This prestigious honor recognizes Brad for his contributions to the Athletic Training profession, including:

  • Working with Kansas legislators to enact licensure requirements for athletic trainers in 2004.
  • Serving on the Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society executive board from 2003-2011.
  • Sitting on the Kansas State High School Activities Association committee that revised high school sports physical forms.

Congratulations, Brad! We appreciate everything you’ve done for our patients and community and are proud to call you a teammate. Take a moment to recognize Brad and his work.
