Reflecting on Education and the Start of School

As a new school year begins – impacting many Stormont Vail Health team members who may be in the role of student, parent or guardian – it is good to reflect on the importance of education. The leadership of Stormont Vail Health, now and historically, has valued and supported individuals in the pursuit of knowledge and education.

The organization’s two founding hospitals in the late 1800s each operated schools of nursing. We continue to have a close affiliation with the Baker School of Nursing on our Topeka campus. Stormont Vail also connects and collaborates with other technical schools and universities providing healthcare educational programs. We provide clinical experiences, internships and more to train future healthcare professionals at our clinics and hospitals. These connections and sharing of knowledge are important to ensure the future of healthcare in our region.

Dr. Libby Rosen, Dean of the Baker University School of Nursing, recently shared a message of appreciation her team received from a recent graduate: “Really getting into nursing and working with other new grads. I am thankful for my Baker School of Nursing education and for all the support you gave me. I feel like such a leader and know my stuff compared to some. It was not easy and takes a village, but it was worth it!”

Thank you to our Baker SON team for training future nurses, and for all of the ways the faculty and students serve the community through educational programs and service projects. Have a great school year.
