First Baby of 2025 in Shawnee County Born at Stormont Vail Health

Stormont Vail Health welcomed the first baby born in Shawnee County in 2025. Baby boy August Martell was born at 3:07 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025. August weighs 8 lbs. and 7 oz. and measures 21 1/4 inches long. He was born to Kerstin and Ethan Martell.


Stormont Vail’s Birthplace offers compassionate, high-quality care for expectant mothers. The nurses and staff have specialized training in labor and delivery to ensure mothers have a healthy and safe delivery. Stormont Vail has the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the region. The NICU is equipped to provide the highest level of care for infants who need extra attention.
