Stormont Vail Health Earns Level II Trauma Center Designation from KDHE, Building on ACS Verification Earlier This Year
Stormont Vail Health is proud to announce its designation as a Level II Trauma Center by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), reinforcing our commitment to delivering expert, coordinated care to trauma patients across Northeast Kansas. This designation follows our successful reverification earlier this year by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma — a nationally recognized gold standard in trauma care excellence.
The KDHE designation reflects our continued dedication to meeting rigorous state standards for trauma care, including timely response, multidisciplinary coordination, and ongoing performance improvement. Together, these recognitions affirm the strength of our trauma systems, the expertise of our clinical teams, and the unwavering support of our hospital leadership.
“Receiving designation from KDHE is a meaningful affirmation of the work our trauma team does every day,” said Tamine Gogel, APRN-C and Director of Trauma Services at Stormont Vail. “Combined with our ACS reverification earlier this year, it shows that our program meets both national and state standards for excellence. But more importantly, it reflects our commitment to being there for patients when they need us most. We’re proud to serve as a trusted resource for our community and the region.”
Over the past five years, the Stormont Vail Trauma Program has grown significantly, increasing from approximately 2,000 patients annually to more than 3,000. Our trauma team provides expert care for a wide range of injuries, including motor vehicle collisions, falls, penetrating trauma, and surgical emergencies.
To maintain Level II status, trauma centers must meet essential criteria, including but not limited to: a comprehensive Trauma Response Team, surgical team, access to advanced technology, and trauma prevention programming.
Both verifications remain valid through April 14, 2028.
