August 2025 Persons of the Moment: Brooke McDonnell

Brooke McDonnell, Nurse Manager, 823/901 Family Practice

What started as a fun day at the movies with her children quickly turned into a life-saving moment for Brooke McDonnell.

While grabbing drinks, Brooke heard urgent cries for medical help coming from a nearby theater. Without a second thought, she rushed toward the commotion and discovered someone was choking.

With calm focus and quick action, Brooke began performing the Heimlich maneuver. She didn’t stop until the person could breathe and speak again. Her courage and skill made all the difference in a moment that could have ended in tragedy.

Brooke’s response wasn’t just heroic—it was instinctive. She didn’t hesitate. She didn’t wait. She simply acted, because that’s what caregivers do.

Her story is a powerful reminder that our commitment to care doesn’t end when we leave the building. Whether in scrubs or street clothes, on duty or off, our team is always ready to help—anytime, anywhere.

We’re proud to honor Brooke as our Person of the Moment for August 2025.

Thank you, Brooke, for your bravery, compassion, and unwavering dedication to others.

Brooke’s actions reflect our first tenet:

Together, we own patient safety and the patient experience.
We treat every patient, visitor, and team member with compassion and dignity.
