First Baby of 2026 in Shawnee County Born at Stormont Vail Health

Stormont Vail Health welcomed the first baby born in Shawnee County in 2026. Baby girl Emersyn Steffen was born at 1:37 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2026. Emersyn weighs 6 lbs. and 14.5 oz. and measures 19 inches long. She was born to Sydney and Alex Steffen.

Stormont Vail’s Birthplace offers compassionate, high-quality care for expectant mothers. The nurses and staff have specialized training in labor and delivery to ensure mothers have a healthy and safe delivery. Stormont Vail has the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the region. The NICU is equipped to provide the highest level of care for infants who need extra attention.
