About
Hi, my name is Brian Wilson. I’m an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Cotton O’Neil Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
How did you become interested in orthopedics?
Science, math, and engineering brought me to a point in my life where I needed to find out what I wanted to do further. I found that orthopedic surgery was a role in which I could utilize those skills in my life. The ability to help someone perform daily activities, get back to the sporting arena, and get back to life performing the activities and jobs they do in everyday life was very rewarding to me.
What treatments do you specialize in?
I treat shoulders, hips, and knees, sports medicine injuries – rotator cuff tears, ACL tears. We also care for the Washburn University athletic department and many of the local high schools here in town.
Why should patients trust you with their care?
When a family and patient put their care in the hands of a physician, they’re relying on that physician to understand and diagnose the problem, to be able to fix and correct the problem. And that’s based on the ability, empathy, and education of that physician. I don’t take this lightly. I think that it’s important because we are taking care of our friends, or neighbors, and family.
