Stormont Vail Health to Host Obesity Symposium

Stormont Vail Health will host the 2025 Stormont Vail Health Obesity Symposium: Multi-Disciplinary Approaches to Treating Obesity on Friday, Sept. 26, at the Pozez Education Center Auditorium in Stormont Vail Hospital, 1500 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka. The event will also be available virtually via Zoom.

This one-day symposium brings together healthcare experts from the Mayo Clinic, Kansas State University, Children’s Mercy Hospital, and Stormont Vail to explore the complex and evolving landscape of obesity care. With contributions from experts in medicine, nutrition, behavioral health, and surgery, the event will focus on practical, team-based strategies that support improved patient outcomes.

The agenda includes sessions on medical and surgical treatment options, nutrition and medication considerations, behavioral health interventions, pediatric care, and muscle retention during treatment. A case review session will offer applied learning opportunities, and a fireside chat will feature patients sharing their personal experiences with obesity and care.

“Obesity is one of the most challenging health issues we face today, and it requires a collaborative, compassionate approach,” said Dr. Sara Stewart, Medical Weight Management Director. “This symposium is an opportunity for professionals to come together, learn from one another, and strengthen the way we care for our patients.”

The event is open to clinicians, care team members, and healthcare professionals across all specialties who are involved in or interested in obesity treatment and management.
