Robotics Program

Stormont Vail Health uses advanced robotics to help patients heal faster, feel better, and get back to life sooner. From diagnosis to surgery, our robotics program is designed to make care safer, more accurate, and less invasive.

Where High-Tech Meets High-Touch

Our robust Robotics Program goes beyond the operating room (OR). We use robotic systems to help healthcare providers:

  • See inside the body more clearly
  • Reach hard-to-access areas
  • Diagnose conditions earlier
  • Perform procedures with greater accuracy

Robot-Assisted Surgery

Our robotics program includes the latest advancements to provide the best surgical care patients deserve. That means:

  • More minimally invasive procedures
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Faster recovery
  • Less pain

Stormont Vail first implemented robotic-assisted surgery in 2018. Today, we have more than 20 surgeons on Medical Staff (all specialties, all robotic modalities) trained to use our fleet of surgical robotics systems, enhancing their ability to operate with precision and care.

Talk to your provider to see if you’re a candidate for robot-assisted surgery.

da Vinci 5

Stormont Vail is the only hospital in Topeka offering the next-generation da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system.

  • Enhanced 3D high-definition vision
  • Smaller, more precise instruments
  • Improved surgeon control with ergonomic consoles
  • Real-time feedback for greater safety
  • Integrated operating room technologies

This system supports a wide range of surgeries, helping patients recover faster with fewer complications.

da Vinci Xi

The da Vinci Xi system allows our surgeons perform delicate procedures with incredible precision and control.

  • 3D, high-definition vision with 10x magnification
  • Robotic arms that mimic the movement of a human wrist
  • Smaller incisions, less pain, and quicker recovery

Commonly used for general surgery, gynecology, and urology procedures.

“What really matters to the patient is that I’m going to be able to provide more advanced surgery through minimally invasive techniques. This improves patient care and safety. This improves patient outcomes.” – Wael Khreiss, M.D., Executive Medical Director and Associate Physician, Stormont Vail Surgical Services

Diagnostics

Ion Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy

The Ion robot helps providers reach small, hard-to-access areas deep in the lungs. It’s especially helpful for diagnosing lung nodules early, when treatment is most effective.

  • Minimally invasive
  • Highly accurate
  • Often done as an outpatient procedure

This means earlier diagnosis, fewer risks, and more peace of mind.
