We Celebrate Sally Gonzalez, Sunflower Award Winner

Sometimes, the most meaningful care comes from simple acts of kindness.
That’s why Sally Gonzalez, Patient Care Technician 2 on the Medical Surgical team, is our latest Sunflower Award for Extraordinary Nursing Support Staff recipient.
Sally earned the recognition after a family member nominated her for the comfort and support she provided a loved one recovering from surgery while experiencing dementia-related confusion. In their nomination, the family shared how Sally’s empathy and positivity helped them through an incredibly emotional time.
“Sally has been AMAZING,” the family wrote. “She went above and beyond for my father-in-law. He has dementia and was getting so confused post-surgery. Somehow, he always managed to remember Sally!”
The Sunflower Award honors nursing support staff who make a meaningful difference through patient-centered care. Sally’s ability to provide comfort, reassurance, and connection embodies the spirit of this award.
We’re proud to recognize Sally and grateful for the difference she makes every day.
Sally’s Nomination
Editor’s note: This nomination has been lightly edited for clarity and readability.
Sally has been AMAZING. She went above and beyond for my father-in-law. He has dementia and was getting so confused post-surgery. Somehow, he always managed to remember Sally! I don’t know if it was her kindness, empathy, or good nature that helped him through his post-surgery, but we are eternally grateful.
We thought we were going to lose my father-in-law. The team at Stormont Vail helped him pull through. During such a difficult and emotional time, it was a godsend to have someone like Sally every day to remind us that things are getting better. She is truly an angel!
