We Remember Those Gone Too Soon: 2025 Global Wave of Light
We Remember Those Gone Too Soon During the 2025 Global Wave of Light
On Oct. 15, communities across the world came together for the 2025 Global Wave of Light Vigil. At 7 p.m. local time, candles were lit across more than 60 countries, creating a continuous wave of light that circled the globe in an unbroken symbol of love and remembrance.
“There’s a common misconception that Labor and Delivery is all cuddles and happy outcomes,” said Melissa Jones, charge nurse at the Stormont Vail Birthplace. “The reality is that we also face heartbreaking losses: miscarriages and preterm deliveries that don’t survive. This vigil is a way to honor those families, and, for us, it’s deeply therapeutic to remember those tiny footprints that were left behind. We are always thinking of them.”
A Moment of Unity and Remembrance
In Topeka, Stormont Vail Hospital hosted a heartfelt service that united team members and families in honoring babies gone too soon. Attendance grew significantly this year, offering a meaningful opportunity for caregivers to reconnect with families and share stories of hope and resilience.
During the ceremony, participants lit tea lights for each baby remembered, accompanied by handwritten names and messages from families. The candles were lit to join the global wave of light, then left to shine in the courtyard throughout the night as a quiet sign of love and solidarity.
We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who lit a candle, shared a story, or stood in support. Together, you helped illuminate a worldwide path of awareness, compassion, and hope for all who navigate pregnancy and infant loss.
