Stormont Vail Receives Security Benefit, U.S. Bank Donations for Excellence in Nursing Awards

Stormont Vail Health received generous donations from Security Benefit and U.S. Bank in support of the Stormont Vail Excellence in Nursing Awards. Both organizations donated $5,000 and have been sponsors of this award since 2018, underscoring their commitment to recognizing and celebrating the dedication, skill, and compassionate care provided by our nurses.

The Excellence in Nursing Awards program was implemented in 2008 in an effort to recognize the outstanding professional work of our more than 2,300 nurses throughout the Stormont Vail system. Hundreds of nurses are nominated each year by their peers, and while all of our nurses deserve recognition, the winners are pillars in representing, promoting, and demonstrating the five tenets of Stormont Vail.

“We are very fortunate to have excellent healthcare in Topeka for our employees and their families,” said Kim Gronniger, Director of Corporate Communications for Security Benefit and Chair of the company’s Charitable Trust. “It’s rewarding for us to help Stormont Vail honor its top nurses through this annual event and our contribution reflects our appreciation for their collective commitment to enhancing our quality of life.”

The winners of the Nursing in Excellence Awards will be recognized at a special event that will take place during National Nurses Week, which occurs May 6-12.

“To Your Health” on WIBW-TV Tonight – Dr. Robert Ricci

Dr. Robert Ricci, a gastroenterologist at the Stormont Vail Digestive Health Center, will share information about the importance of screenings and risk factors for colorectal cancer on tonight’s WIBW-TV “To Your Health” segment. Dr. Ricci will be on the segment that airs at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment typically repeats at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and is posted on wibw.com.

In recognition that March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Ricci will also lead the Walk with a Doc program from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. this Saturday at the east side of Lee Arena at Washburn University in Topeka.

The Stormont Vail team was saddened to learn of the death on March 8 of Dr. Edward Wood, a physician who cared for Stormont Vail patients for 40 years. Dr. Wood retired in 2018. A private celebration of life is planned March 22.

We together,
Dr. Kenagy
