Stormont Vail Health Welcomes Lincoln Center OB/GYN Douglas Gleason, M.D.

Stormont Vail Health proudly welcomes Dr. Douglas Gleason, an OB/GYN specializing in reproductive medicine and pregnancy care, to the Stormont Vail Women’s Services team. Dr. Gleason delivers various women’s health services at Stormont Vail OB/GYN Lincoln Center, 800 SW Lincoln St., 66606, in Topeka.

Aside from his 12-year-long education journey, Dr. Gleason has called Topeka home his entire life. Dr. Gleason briefly lived in Ft. Worth, Texas while completing his BA in Chemistry at Texas Christian University before relocating to Kansas City to obtain his medical degree at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

After finishing his residency at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Dr. Gleason joined his father’s practice in Topeka, where he has served for 27 years.

“It was fun following in his footsteps because I now care for patients he treated or deliver babies of patients he delivered, so it’s interesting serving the full generation,” Dr. Gleason said. “He really loved the field, and I could see that, so I knew what I was getting into and thought it was a fun way to go.”

Dr. Gleason’s personable demeanor and keen focus on trust and relationship building seek to put patients at ease while making them more informed about their unique situations, resulting in better care and experiences for everyone.

“I want to make sure my patients have a say in their care and understand why I am doing what I am doing. I feel I am honest with my patients and do what is best for them. I try to treat my patients like family. I think, ‘If you were my daughter, wife, or mom, what would be the best treatment for you?’”

Dr. Gleason is accepting new patients at the Stormont Vail OB/GYN Lincoln Center — call (785) 233-1404 to schedule an appointment.

“To Your Health” on WIBW-TV Tonight: Dr. Jacqueline Kenoly

Jacqueline Kenoly, M.D., will share information about an upcoming community forum about black maternal health on tonight’s WIBW “To Your Health.” The segment will air at 10 p.m. on WIBW-TV, Channel 13. The segment will typically repeat at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays on 13 News This Morning and be posted on wibw.com. Dr. Kenoly, Express Care physician, has helped organize the event to bring awareness and action in improving Black maternal health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that everyone can play a role in working to prevent pregnancy-related deaths and improving maternal health outcomes.

The forum, “Let’s Talk: Motherhood and Mortality, Black Maternal Health” will be 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Pozez Education Center, north end of Stormont Vail Health’s Topeka hospital, 1500 S.W. 10th Ave. The event is sponsored by the Topeka Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Topeka Doula Project, Inc., and Stormont Vail Health. Registration can be done online.

Resources and Support for Black Maternal Health

As we strive to improve access to comprehensive perinatal and reproductive healthcare, Stormont Vail has created a directory to empower expectant mothers with resources and support. As a team member, you can support this initiative (and our neighbors) by learning about urgent warning signs, what to do if something feels wrong, and where to find support. We encourage you to share these resources with your patients and community!

In addition, the stories of women in our community and their birthing experiences are being shared on Stormont Vail’s external website to encourage others to learn about Black Maternal Health and how as a community we can improve health outcomes for mothers and infants.

Stormont Vail Awarded Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission

Stormont Vail Health has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care (ACPC) by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to providing safe, high quality, patient care, including for both complicated and uncomplicated pregnancies.

Stormont Vail underwent a two-day review in December 2023. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers conducted observations and interviews, and evaluated compliance with related certification standards, including those that demonstrate the ability and commitment to providing secure care to patients before, during, and after delivery, as well as newborns. Joint Commission standards are developed in talks with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients.

Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care addresses a growing need for appropriate obstetric care, helping ensure a multidisciplinary approach is taken when developing a patient-centered care plan using evidence-based assessment tools.

“Our commitment to achieving this certification is really our commitment to our patients, their families, and our community,” said Kim Dick, Perinatal Quality Program Manager. “We utilize The Joint Commission’s certification as a formalized way to hold ourselves accountable to and pledge the level of excellence we expect each patient in our Maternal Child service line to receive while they are in our care.”

We together,
Dr. Kenagy
