Aileen McCarthy, M.D., Receives ACP Mastership Award
Dr. Aileen McCarthy, a Stormont Vail Health physician and member of the board, has been awarded the American College of Physicians’ 2022-23 Mastership. Fourteen Kansans have received the award since its inception in 1923. Dr. McCarthy is the third Topekan to be a Mastership recipient.
The American College of Physicians bylaws state that Masters shall be fellows who have been selected because of “integrity, positions of honor, impact in practice or in medical research, or other attainments in science or in the art of medicine.” Masters must be highly accomplished persons demonstrating impact in practice, leadership or in medical research.
The ACP’s Board of Regents voted to elect Dr. McCarthy as a recipient of the Mastership after they received information outlining the impact she has had on her community, the practice of internal medicine, the profession of medicine, medical science and her patients. The person who is recommended for the achievement is not aware they are being considered until they receive notification that Mastership is going to be conferred. Dr. McCarthy noted it was an honor to receive it. Congratulations to Dr. McCarthy for receiving this prestigious professional achievement.
Celebrating Medical Laboratory Professionals Week
This week is Medical Laboratory Professionals Week – an annual celebration to highlight and show appreciation for all of our laboratory professionals. The 48th annual Medical Laboratory Professionals Week aims to recognize clinical and public health laboratory professionals for their contributions to the health of our communities through their work in public health and clinical laboratories as well as our family members, friends, and colleagues who are patients in clinical settings.
The theme for Lab Week 2023 is The Future is Lab. This year, we celebrate laboratory professionals who protect our future by skillfully adapting to meet today’s evolving patient care and public health challenges with resilience, innovation, and expertise. Thank you, Lab Professionals. We couldn’t provide care for our community without you.

Picnic with the Pups!
While our team members at Stormont Vail Health provide the best care possible, so do our therapy animals. Stormont Vail has a very giving and active Paw Squad which provides pet therapy to our team members, patients and visitors. Since beginning on July 5, 2022, the Stormont Vail Health Paw Squad has made over 1,340 visits and dedicated over 2,340 hours of service to our patients and team members.
Help us celebrate National Therapy Animal Day by joining us for a Picnic with the Pups on April 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Stormont Vail Topeka courtyard.
