Stormont Vail Health is honored to recognize Hossam Abed, M.D., as our January 2026 Person of the Moment.

While caring for a patient with heart failure, Dr. Abed showed exceptional dedication to clinical excellence and human dignity. Struck by the fact that the patient faced the end of life without family present, Dr. Abed made persistent efforts to locate and connect loved ones.

He discovered the patient’s wife was hospitalized elsewhere in the building, and, with assistance from our Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care and nursing teams, facilitated her transfer to his bedside. He also coordinated visits from the patient’s father and brother.

Later that evening, Dr. Abed saw a noticeable sense of peace in the patient’s demeanor. By the next morning, the patient passed away with his wife at his side.

His actions reflect the highest standards of compassion, advocacy, and patient‑centered care. We extend our sincere appreciation for his commitment to ensuring dignity in life’s final moments.

About the Person of the Moment Award

This monthly award honors Stormont Vail team members who demonstrate Stormont Vail’s five tenets through meaningful actions that positively impact others. All team members (except directors and Operating Committee members) are eligible. Winners are recognized in their department and celebrated at the annual Awards Gala.
