Stormont Vail Health Breaks Ground on New Emporia Campus

Stormont Vail Health, in partnership with community leaders, caregivers, regional partners, and community members, officially broke ground Friday on a new campus in Emporia. Nearly 200 people gathered to celebrate this significant investment in expanding access to high-quality care across the region.

“Today is about more than construction. Today is about commitment—to Emporia, to this region, and to the future of high-quality care close to home. Stormont Vail has been part of this community for more than 30 years—serving patients, building relationships, and earning trust one visit at a time. And while this facility is new, our commitment here is not.”

– President and ceo mark slyter

The campus will serve as a centralized location for a broad range of primary, specialty, and support services, including behavioral health, cardiology, endocrinology, immunology and allergy, orthopedics, occupational health, and on-site imaging and laboratory services.

“Emporia is a strong community built by strong people and access to healthcare is a critical part of that strength. When people can see a trusted provider, access specialty care close to home, and receive coordinated care, it makes a difference in the health and life of the patient and the community.”

– emporia clinic medical director dr. scott smiley

The groundbreaking reflects years of planning and collaboration between Stormont Vail and community stakeholders, with leaders noting the project has been in development for several years and reflects a long-term vision for health care in Emporia.

“As someone who calls Lyon County home—this moment is incredibly special. I’m an Emporia native, and I’m proud to serve the community that has shaped who I am. As a nurse, I know healing doesn’t just come from treatment—it comes from how a place feels. And this campus was designed to feel like Emporia—welcoming, connected, and built for this community. A place where healing isn’t just clinical… it’s personal.”

– emporia clinic director kelsey meyer

The approximately $35 million campus will be located near the intersection of 18th Street and Road G and is expected to open to the public in 2028.
