Stormont Vail Health Becomes First Topeka Hospital to Offer 24/7 Access to Da Vinci Robotic Surgery
Stormont Vail Health is proud to announce it is the first hospital in Topeka to offer patients 24/7 access to robotic-assisted surgery via the Da Vinci Surgical System. This level of around-the-clock surgical care ensures that regardless of when a patient arrives to the ER, they will have access to the most advanced surgical technology and minimally invasive treatment.
“Every minute matters in an emergency situation. Being able to offer 24/7 robotic surgery means that we’re putting advanced care within reach when it’s needed most,” said Dr. Wael Khreiss, Executive Medical Director of General Surgery at Stormont Vail. “Patients in our region deserve continuous access to the best care available and we’re making that a reality.”
The Da Vinci Surgical System is a robotic platform that enhances the surgeon’s precision, vision, and control through a minimally invasive approach. Using small incisions, the Da Vinci system translates the surgeons’ hand movements into precise micro-movements of instruments inside the body. This allows access to minimal-invasive surgeries for conditions that were traditionally managed by open surgery, allowing for patients to benefit from less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recoveries compared to traditional open or even laparoscopic surgery.
As a verified Level II Trauma Center, Stormont Vail serves more than 3,000 traumatically injured patients annually, making expanded access to this technology crucial for the Northeast Kansas region.
With a team of board-certified surgeons and expert operating room staff available 24/7, Stormont Vail continues to be a leader in innovation and access, ensuring that every patient receives high-quality, safe, and timely care.
