We Recognize Isaac Littlejohn, February Person of the Moment

Facilities management professionals are the cornerstone of an effective environment of care. These professionals play an important, though often hidden, role in preparing facilities to meet patient and team members’ needs.

In a healthcare setting, they ensure the effective, uninterrupted operation of hospitals and clinics by managing equipment and environmental services, utility maintenance and use, emergency management, and more.

At the crossroads between patient care and facility solutions, facility specialists like Isaac Littlejohn make an impact every day. For this reason, we proudly recognize Isaac as February’s Person of the Moment.

“Isaac has been our reliable facilities expert since we opened the new Stormont Vail Health Manhattan Campus in July 2023. He exemplifies the friendly, solution-driven spirit of Stormont Vail’s culture. His proactive approach to addressing challenges, coupled with an impressive memory, ensures that even casual hallway mentions of tasks result in prompt and efficient resolutions, making him an invaluable asset to our team.

Isaac knows this building inside and out, takes pride in keeping it in excellent working order, and maintains all systems well. There is no request too big or too small for Isaac. He’s creative and thoughtful and serves our Manhattan Campus with pride, professionalism, and selflessness. Patient, visitor, and team member safety is always at the forefront of Isaac’s mind.

A few of the recent examples of his exemplary performance include:

  • As we have recently experienced subzero temperatures and snow, Isaac has gone above and beyond, working non-stop to ensure everyone stays safe and warm. Friday, January 12, when the northeast winds were blowing, every time the front doors would open, a gust of freezing wind ushered into the lobby, making conditions in the lobby extremely cold for patients and team members. Isaac worked tirelessly (even contacting the manufacturer) to program the sliding lobby doors to open at opposite times to help prevent cold air from entering. He also took the initiative to figure out how to manipulate and maximize the building’s HVAC technology to move airflow throughout the building better. Although initially told doing so wasn’t possible, he contacted the HVAC company to learn how to do it. His dedication and persistence gave patients, visitors, and team members warmth and comfort. This difficult task was a tall order, but Isaac knew it was necessary and got it done.
  • Isaac also secured heaters for the lobby and Radina’s coffee shop in preparation for the following Monday’s opening. He watched the equipment, temperatures, and gauges over the weekend and even came in on Sunday to make adjustments so that when team members and patients arrived Monday morning, they would enter a warm building. Each day, the frigid temperatures brought about new challenges in exam rooms inside the building, too. Isaac coordinated the thermostats to address challenges throughout the building.
  • Isaac always ensures all sidewalks, walkways, and entrances are clear. He checks multiple times each day and applies salt as needed to keep everyone safe.
  • In another example, when the city water failed, and we lost water pressure to campus, Isaac worked with leadership and city workers to get the water back onto the building promptly and continued monitoring water pressure and gauges for several days.

Isaac is a tremendous asset to our Manhattan Campus and Stormont Vail. In addition to his devotion to our facilities, he is enthusiastic and helpful and always gives everyone a kind hello. Isaac exemplifies everything we stand for and makes a difference for many. He is very deserving of the Person of the Moment award.”

Isaac’s consideration for others aligns with our first tenet: “Together, we treat every patient, visitor, and team member with compassion and dignity.”

Isaac, your unfailing sense of duty is only matched by your kindness. We find your story inspiring and are glad for an opportunity to give you the recognition you deserve. Thank you for everything you do – and congratulations on your recognition as February Person of the Moment!
