Stormont Vail Team Shines at “Glow Wild”

We had a wonderful turn out at our first night of “Glow Wild,” our Stormont Vail team appreciation event at the Topeka Zoo Lights. We are looking forward to another evening of holiday lights and festivities. Thank you to all of the team members who worked together to make this launch to the holidays such as success.

Glow Wild follows a festive Tuesday evening at our Warm & Thankful celebration. In addition to turning on the holiday lights at our Topeka campus, we made a wonderful donation of sleeping bags and winter hats and gloves to the Topeka Rescue Mission. This was made possible by the generous donations of Stormont Vail team members. A big thank you to our Facilities team for creating the campus light show.

Our team gives of their time and talents year-round in so many ways for the benefit of our patients and communities. My hope is that the special events planned for you and your family this week, let you know that you are appreciated and valued as a member of the Stormont Vail family. Thank you.

November 2022 Person of the Moment: Ryan Bishop

Congratulations to our November Person of the Moment, Ryan Bishop! Ryan is known at Stormont Vail Health for not only his talent with a camera, but for the heart that he puts into his projects. Ryan is a video production specialist in our Marketing and Communications Department.

His nomination for Person of the Moment stated: “Ryan Bishop created the most powerful video I have ever seen for our most recent recruitment event. Trying to connect this message took so much dedication, creativity, and hard work. I am just amazed by his work and how he is able to capture our culture in small moment videos.”

We are proud to honor Ryan and his hard work that spreads the Stormont Vail way to the community in unique ways, leaving lasting impressions. Congratulations, Ryan! You are so deserving of this award!

First Class to Graduate from Emerging Leaders Program

The first graduates of the Emerging Leaders Program will be recognized for their hard work at a graduation program from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Pozez Auditorium. A reception will follow in Centennial B.

The six-month Stormont Vail Emerging Leaders program is designed for highly engaged team members wanting to learn more about the importance of effective leadership. Most participants have a goal of moving into a leadership position at some point in their future. Successful completion replaces the need for one year of leadership experience to apply for leadership positions within our organization.

The first program started in July 2022.  There are 20 participants who represent many areas throughout the health system: Marketing and Communications, Express Care, Employee Health, Lab, 2 West Critical Care, Pharmacy, Administration, Provider Recruitment, Rehab Services, Behavioral Health, Care Transformation, PACU, Risk Management, Medical Staff Office, Spine Center, Urology and Cath Lab.

Each participant was matched with a mentor with outlined expectations to meet throughout the program. Both mentors and mentees have commented on what a wonderful part of the program the mentorship has been.

A portion of the program was spent in the classroom, where participants learned and interacted on topics such as:  Generational Leadership, Transformational Leadership, Conflict Resolution/Crucial Conversations, Communication/Listening, Emotional Intelligence and Importance of Team Building/Morale.

This cohort was assigned a book to read and have discussion.  The book selected was Leadership Edge.

Each participant was to complete several Work Based Learning (WBL) projects. Some of the WBL projects were: Development of Peer Support Program, Creating Department-Specific Educational Pathways, Team Building, Department Budget Work and Shadowing a Colleague.

This has been a lively group engaged in great dialogue, learning from each other and building relationships with peers across our health system.  Keep an eye on the first graduates of this first offering of Emerging Leader. They are destined for greatness!
