Building the Future of Care, One Scholarship at a Time

The Stormont Vail Foundation awarded its inaugural Blair Family Scholarship to K‑State PA student Liza Rogers, supporting her clinical training with a $10,000 award.

Along with financial support, Liza will gain hands‑on experience by completing at least two clinical rotations at Stormont Vail Health.

The scholarship was made possible through a generous gift to the Stormont Vail Foundation from the Clay Blair Family Foundation. Applications for the next award open in fall 2026.

Stormont Vail Hospital Pharmacy Renovation: Built to Provide the BEST

After 18 months of careful planning and phased construction, the newly renovated Pharmacy at Stormont Vail Hospital is nearly ready to open its doors, marking a major milestone for our acute care teams and patients.

See the Transformation

Darryl Peterson, PA-C, Walk-in Services provider at the Flint Hills Campus, recently joined Within Reason with Mike Matson on KMAN Radio. Darryl shared how patients can make the most of Walk-in Services, when to use walk-in care, and how it supports timely, accessible care for our community.

Supporting Kids Through Community Partnership

Great healthcare for kids starts with a community that cares. We’re grateful for partners like Azura Credit Union, whose recent $14,738 contribution (raised through its Community Impact Card program) supports Children’s Miracle Network at Stormont Vail Health and helps make a meaningful difference for kids and families across our region.

Ranee Seastrom Named Interim Dean at Baker SON; Libby Rosen Returns to Teaching

Ranee Seastrom, DNP, MHA, RN, CNE, has been appointed Interim Dean of the Baker University School of Nursing, which is located on the Stormont Vail Health Topeka campus. Dr. Seastrom will lead the school along with Denise Johnson, Ph.D., MSN, APRN, who has been promoted to Interim Assistant Dean.

Libby Rosen, Ph.D., RN, IBCLC, who held the dean role since October 2021, has returned to teaching, her passion, as a doctorate level professor at Baker SON. Dr. Rosen’s guidance and leadership over the years is invaluable and her legacy at the School of Nursing and at Stormont Vail will be felt for the years to come. Dr. Rosen’s clinical and educational expertise will continue to be shared through her return to teaching. Prior to her academic career at Baker, Dr. Rosen was an RN at Stormont Vail in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Birthplace, Breastfeeding and Follow-up Clinic, and helped to develop and lead multiple educational and support programs for new parents and babies. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas Medical Center.

As the new Interim Dean, Dr. Seastrom brings valuable experience in academic leadership through a shared vision between Baker University and Stormont Vail Health, and a strong commitment to supporting our academic mission. Dr. Seastrom will work closely with faculty, staff, Stormont Vail and university leadership to ensure continuity of operations and maintain our momentum on key initiatives.

Dr. Seastrom received her DNP from Grand Canyon University, her Post Masters Nurse Educator Certificate from Fort Hays State University, and an MSN/MHA from the University of Phoenix. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Baker School of Nursing. Prior to being named Interim Dean, she served as Assistant Dean of the Undergraduate Program and as an Assistant Professor at Baker SON. She also previously worked as a RN at Stormont Vail Health.

Dr. Johnson has been with Baker School of Nursing since 2019 when she started teaching in the traditional BSN program. She was appointed Assistant Dean in 2020, a position held until 2022 while continuing to serve as an Assistant Professor. Prior to being named Interim Assistant Dean, she served as an Assistant Professor in the ABSN and Graduate programs. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She worked in nursing and APRN roles in clinics and hospitals prior to moving to the academic setting. Baker School of Nursing currently has 190 students enrolled in various bachelor through master of nursing degree programs. The school offers an on campus Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree on the Topeka hospital campus, as well as an accelerated online BSN, and online MSN, and ADN to BSN, and ADN to MSN programs. The School of Nursing has one of the longest-standing affiliations with a hospital in the country. The predecessor hospital of Stormont Vail Health began a training school for nurses in 1892. Baker University and Stormont Vail signed a partnership agreement in 1990 to operate the Baker University School of Nursing.
